Rochelle Community Hospital is offering two Safe Sitter classes this summer on Wednesday, June 22 (registration deadline June 8) and Thursday, July 28 (registration deadline July 14). You may register on-line at www.rochellehospital.com/events/list/or call instructor Donna Trout, RN at 815-562-2181, ext. 1550.

Young children are not always able to communicate their needs and protect themselves.  Safe Sitter classes teach young boys and girls, typically ages 11-14, how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. That’s why babysitters must be able to handle whatever situation arises and react appropriately.

Safe Sitters will learn:

· What to do if a child stops breathing

· How to call for emergency assistance

· How to perform basic child care skills (diapering, feeding, etc.)

· How to entertain children and keep them safe

· How to manage the “business of babysitting.”

A fee of $35 covers the program which is held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and includes materials. Classes are held in the Training Room at the hospital and students need to bring a sack lunch. Masking is required for everyone in a healthcare setting.

Rochelle Community Hospital has been a teaching site for Safe Sitter since October 1995.
