From 4:00-5:30 p.m. free screenings will be offered along with the opportunity to speak to a variety of specialists and learn how diabetes affects the entire body.

Free screening offers a Hemoglobin A1C lab draw and a blood pressure check.  Results from the lab draw will be mailed to each participant.

Specialists on hand include:  Dr. Abe Anderson, dentist; Dr. Sushmita Prathipati, family practice physician; Dr. Reid Mlsna, optometrist; Gordon Dockerty, pharmacist; and Dr. Dinesh Pandya, Podiatrist.  Also on hand will be meter and insulin representatives, educational materials and the opportunity to meet RCH diabetes education staff.

At 5:30 p.m. a cooking demonstration featuring Debbie Clark, RCH Dietary and Nutrition Manager will include samples, nutritional tips and recipes.

Besides the helpful information and giveaways there will be a drawing to win a $50 gift card and more.

What is a Hemoglobin A1C test?

  • The Hemoglobin A1C measures your average blood glucose (sugar) control for the past 2 to 3 months.
  • Results are determined by measuring the percentage of glycated hemoglobin, or HbA1c, in the blood.  A lab draw is required but no fasting is necessary.
  • Check your A1C twice a year at a minimum, or more frequently when necessary. This test does not replace daily self-testing of blood glucose.
  • Discuss the advantages of having an A1C test with your physician or contact our Certified Diabetes Educator for more information.

Diabetics, caregivers, and anyone with a family history of diabetes are all encouraged to attend.  Questions can be directed to Emily at 815-561-3110.
