Healthcare Scholarships Presented to Five Area Students by RCH Auxiliary

Congratulations to all of the recipients!  They include:

Bailey Johnson

Bailey is the recipient of the Ward and Mabel Miller Scholarship. Bailey is a senior at RTHS and is the daughter of Bret Johnson and Devona Harms both of Rochelle.  She is one of seven children and will be attending Kishwaukee College next semester.  Bailey’s dream of becoming a nurse began when her younger sister was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit when she was born.  Bailey realized then that she wanted to be one of the nurses who tends to children when they are sick.

Jessica Castro

Jessica is married to Javier and they have two children ages 5 and 2.  She is enrolled in Kishwaukee College’s nursing program and hopes to graduate next year.  She is already a C.N.A. and has loved the work she has done assisting patients.  She currently has a 4.0 GPA in all of her nursing classes.  Jessica is not only a wife, a mom and a full-time student; she is trying to fulfill her dream to make a better life for her family.

Emily Hueber

Emily is a senior at RTHS and is the daughter of Ron and Joanne Hueber of Rochelle.  She is the youngest of four children, and she will attend either North Central College or Kishwaukee College this Fall where she will begin her journey to become a physician.  She has been involved in just about everything in high school from National Honor Society to Choir.  Eventually Emily would like to specialize and become an Optometrist.

Makenzie Isley

Makenzie is a 2012 graduate of RTHS and is currently attending the University of Iowa in Iowa City working towards a degree in nursing.  Her parents are Gary Isley and Jodi Sage of Rochelle.  Health care runs in her family with her mother and her aunt.  Makenzie wants to be the kind of nurse that makes the difference in the lives of not only the patient, but their family members as well.

Brittany Sanderson

Brittany is also a senior at RTHS and will be graduating next month.  Her parents are Paul and Cheryl Sanderson.  In the fall, Brittany will attend NIU to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.  Brittany is an athlete and has twisted, broke, snapped, strained, sprained and torn various parts of her body.  With these injuries came rehab and physical therapy.  She writes: “I realized that being a physical therapist is more than helping people overcome their obstacles; it is also about being a person’s counselor, inspiration and friend.”
