RTHS Helps RCH Become a HUB for Those Battling Cancer

Rochelle Community Hospital has created a new program to offer assistance to those battling cancer of all kinds. It’s called All About Me and according to RCH Radiology Director Joy Miller, the program is for everyone receiving chemo treatments at RCH.

“This program will become a valuable asset in a couple of ways. The first thing we have been able to accomplish: chemo care kits.  They’re specific things patients new to chemotherapy need because initially they won’t feel well which can make shopping difficult.” Miller said the care kits are bags filled with necessities patients will receive free of charge on their first visit for treatment.

Secondly, RCH will become a resource center for cancer patients; all cancer patients, not just those battling breast cancer. Miller said there is a need, not just locally, but a countywide need for a place where all cancer treatment-related resources can be accessed.

“We will have a link on our website listing all the phone numbers patients may need.”

Different cancer treatments generate different side effects. Some patients need help with skin care, others seek wigs, nutrition, exercise, massage, counseling and pastoral services. RCH intends to be the link to these services.

“Having this list will prevent the patients from having to research services on their own, leaving them free to concentrate on healing,” Miller said. “This is a tremendous undertaking. It’s going to take time, but I am confident we will accomplish our goal.  “If your organization offers services that can assist cancer patients, please contact me at Rochelle Community Hospital. We’ll get you on the resource list.”

To move the program forward, the RTHS Volleyball team has designated $750 from this year’s Volley for the Cure event to the All About Me program at RCH.
