What is a Hemoglobin A1C test?
- The Hemoglobin A1C measures your average blood glucose (sugar) control for the past 2 to 3 months.
- Results are determined by measuring the percentage of glycated hemoglobin, or HbA1c, in the blood. A lab draw is required but no fasting is necessary.
- Check your A1C twice a year at a minimum, or more frequently when necessary. This test does not replace daily self-testing of blood glucose.
- Discuss the advantages of having an A1C test with your physician or contact our Certified Diabetes Educator for more information.
Diabetics, caregivers, and anyone with a family history of diabetes are all encouraged to attend. Questions can be directed to Emily at 815-561-3110.
