RCH Auxiliary Presents Healthcare Scholarships to Five Area Students
The recipients of this year’s five Rochelle Community Hospital Auxiliary $1,000 healthcare scholarships were recognized at the annual RCH Auxiliary Brunch on April 13, 2015. Congratulations to all of the recipients! They include:
Krista is a senior at Ashton-Franklin Center High School and is the daughter of Karen and Joshua Harmon. Krista will be attending Bradley University in the fall to pursue a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Krista has been described as “a wonderful student” and “a young woman with impeccable character” by a few of her teachers. Krista has been very active in high school sports and this has helped her determine what her “dream” career would be. Krista has received numerous academic and athletic awards during her high school career. Krista looks forward to the opportunity of job shadowing in Physical Therapy this summer to help prepare for her future career.
Stacia is a senior at Oregon High School and is the daughter of Darren and Tammy Burke. Stacia has been accepted into the University of Dubuque for the fall semester and plans to major in nursing. After job shadowing a nurse practitioner, Stacia realized that this was her passion and the right path for her to follow. Stacia’s goal is to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and then her master’s to specialize in neonatology. Stacia was described as “one of the most well-rounded students our school has ever seen” by one of her teachers and this has been validated by her high academic and extracurricular activity achievements.
Kellie is currently enrolled at Kishwaukee College and will be transferring to Sauk Valley Community College this fall to pursue her career in nursing. Kellie is married to Matt and they have two daughters, Mackayla and Evelyn. Kellie has been described as an advocate for her patients, maintaining professionalism and high quality of care. Kellie received High Performer of the Month in May of 2014 and continues to go above and beyond what is expected. Kellie currently works as an Emergency Department Technician at RCH and would like to continue to work as an Emergency Nurse upon graduation.
Haley is a freshman at Grand Canyon University in Arizona and is the daughter of Keith and Kristen Griffith. Haley is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and is very passionate about fulfilling her dream of becoming an Emergency Nurse. Haley worked in the Rehab Services Department at RCH last summer to enhance her knowledge and passion for patient care. Haley has been described by her college advisor as having a “big heart, a selfless personality, and a true passion for helping others”. This is evident in her multiple academic and extracurricular activity achievements the past five years.
Delaney is a senior at Oregon High School and is the daughter of Tom and Angela Mahoney. Delaney will be attending Illinois State University in the fall to pursue a career in exercise physiology. Not only has Delaney excelled in athletics, but she has also excelled in the classroom as noted by her multiple athletic and academic honors. Delaney has been described as “a person with an incredible ambition, an intelligent, intuitive leader, s well as a person with great dependability”. Delaney’s teacher stated that “she will contribute greatly to her chosen field and to whatever community is blessed enough to have her in it after graduation”.
