RCH Auxiliary Presents Healthcare Scholarships to Five Students

Recipients of the 2018 Rochelle Community Hospital Auxiliary $1,000 healthcare scholarships were recognized at the annual RCH Auxiliary Volunteer-Scholarship Brunch on April 9, 2018.

Congratulations to all of the recipients!  They include:

Karyn Baldwin

Karyn is part of The Academy, a credit program at Sauk Valley Community College which allows high-achieving students to earn college credit during their senior year of high school.  She will graduate this May from Ashton-Franklin Center High School and continue to earn her Associates degree in Science.  She has been on the Superior Honor Roll all four years of high school, in the National Honor Society and involved in Phi Theta Kappa and Rotaract at SVCC.  Her goals are to enroll in a pre-professional medicine program.  Her determination, analytical thinking and selflessness are just a few of the reasons why she is pursuing a career as a medical examiner.

Hannah Cruz

Hannah is the recipient of the Ward and Mabel Miller Award. Memorial funds donated to the hospital in honor of the Millers have made this scholarship possible since 2009.

Hannah is currently a senior at RTHS and plans on attending Loyola University, Chicago in the fall.  She has had a well-rounded high school career including Cross Country, Math Team, Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering Team, National Honor Society and participated in the University of New England Early College Neuroscience Program.  She has also spent 500+ hours volunteering her time with the Red Cross during the tornado, Little League Coach, National Honor Society tutor and Main Office monitor at the High School.  Her occupational goal is to become a neurologist after being injured during a basketball game and being diagnosed with a rare condition that causes involuntary muscle spasms.  It took Hannah 18 months of doctor visits to discover a treatment.  Because of her experience, she wants to enter the medical field and develop new forms of treatments for neurological disorders.

Colin Kaecker

Colin is a senior at Ashton-Franklin Center High School and will attend University of Kansas after he graduates.  He is currently a member of the National Honor Society, FFA, AFC wrestling team, AFC  football team and  the Renaissance program.  He has done a lot of work to prepare for his future by having an internship at University of Kansas for a summer where he worked in the lab on a DNA project.  Colin’s history teacher, Mr. Stauffer shared, “Colin is a wonderful student, but on top of that, and most importantly, he is a quality young man who has great character, and cares about the people around him, in every area of his life.”

Savannah Stinnett

Savannah is currently a senior attending Ashton-Franklin Center High School and will attend Sauk Valley Community College this fall.  She hopes to specialize in neonatal care and work in a hospital with newborn babies and then eventually get a nurse practitioner degree.  She has been on Student Council, National Honor Society, Band, Chorus, Honor Roll, ILMEA, Softball, Volleyball and an ISAC Illinois State Scholar.  According to Ms. Viall, her science teacher, “Savannah will be successful in any path that she chooses.  She is a well-rounded student who strives for the best in all she does.”

Alison Valdivieso

Alison is currently attending Kishwaukee College where she is a Clinical Radiology Student with the RCH program.  After she graduated from RTHS in 2017, she began her pursuit at a career as an X-ray technologist and hopes to specialize in vascular sonography or mammography.  Her goal with her clinical rotation is to serve every patient that she helps with excellence in both imaging and patient care.  Erica Sachs, Alison’s Clinical Instructor at RCH stated, “Alison provides patients with compassionate care and is always very professional.  I have seen her desire to learn all aspects of healthcare grow in our program.”
