RCH Hosts February Heart Healthy Events

Join us at one of these free events during the month of February focusing on a healthy heart. 


Free Lipid Profile Health Screenings will be offered on: Wednesday, February 5 from 6:00-7:00 a.m. and Thursday, February 6 from 6:30-7:30 a.m.

A lipid profile blood draw will be provided which measures total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol) and Triglycerides.  Those participating MUST BE FASTING 12-15 hours prior to the blood draw to be tested.  Screening will take place across from the lab/x-ray waiting room, first floor. Look for signs. Questions can be directed to Janet at 815-561-3113.  You do not need to register, first come first served.  


Celebrate National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 7!  RCH employees will be wearing red on February 7 to raise awareness in the fight against heart disease and support the American Heart Association. We’ll be taking a group picture for fun.  We’d like to challenge local businesses to wear red to work that day also!  Send your “red” pictures to and we’ll post them on our Facebook page.

“Cooking for Your Heart” Class

Free class held on Saturday, February 22 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Auxiliary Room.

This class is aimed towards those wanting to discover the importance of diet in maintaining a healthy heart. Open to anyone, including congestive heart failure (CHF) patients, cardiac rehabilitation patients, spouses, caregivers, anyone who wants to learn about eating healthy.  The class features a cooking demonstration, samples, recipes, and instructional handouts with Debbie Clark, RCH Food and Nutrition Manager. Registration is required by calling 815-561-3113 or email no later than Thursday, February 20.


“Preventing Heart Disease and Knowing Your Risks”

A free community presentation on Tuesday, February 25 at Beacon on the Green.

From 4:30-6:00 p.m. visit informational booths and register for raffle prizes.  At 6:00 p.m., Dr. Shaun Kurien, a Cardiologist with Rockford Cardiovascular Associates will share ways to prevent heart disease and the risk factors.  A heart healthy meal will be provided.  Registration is required by calling 815-561-3113 or email no later than Friday, February 21.


Monthly Blood Pressure CheckOur cardiac rehabilitation staff take blood pressures at the Hub City Senior the fourth Tuesday of the month from 9:00-10:00 a.m.  Stop by!
