Every. Single. Day.

Every. Single. Day.

January 3, 2018

As we say goodbye to 2017, unlike many other items you read at the end of 2017 and the beginning of the new year, I will not spend this time reminiscing or setting resolutions for the coming year. I would much rather share thoughts on things that we should adhere to Every. Single. Day.

Such as… when you have those days when nothing seems to go your way and things get hard, remember your why. Why did you start this in the first place? Why are you doing it and why is it important? What is the end result and what is to be achieved? Thinking these thoughts will keep everything in perspective and keep you moving forward.

Such as… think small and act small and you’ll get bigger. Think big and act big and you’ll get smaller. Keep plugging along and giving your best effort and you can achieve great things. Being complacent makes achievement that much harder.

Such as… be on time. Enough said.

Such as… success is optional. Success is not an entitlement. It takes hard work and determination to be successful. It is a choice, not a guarantee.

Such as… when you are passionate about something – whether in life or work – relish the responsibility that goes with it. If it’s worth your attention and caring about, enjoy the outcome.

Such as… avoid complacency. I remember talking to a business partner a couple years ago about growth and opportunity and success, and he said one of the biggest deterrents to these is complacency. That just because things are going well now, doesn’t mean they will go well in the future.

Such as… in business, don’t ignore your competition. Keep an eye on them, so you know what they are up to and any impact it may have on you and your organization.

Such as… have a hop in your step. We all know preparation is key, but once you prepare you need to act. And as important as it is to act when you feel good and have lots of energy, it may be of more importance on those days when you may not be at your best.

Such as… take a positive approach to every work day. In a previous blog I wrote about not complaining how rough the water is, to just dock the boat. Too much negativity brings people down. Accentuate the positive and let us know what good is happening in your world.

Such as… you are contagious. The way you interact with people, both verbally and non-verbally impacts them and their day. Therefore you can be someone that injects positive energy into your family, co-workers and team, or you can be a virus that spreads.

Such as… savor your successes and keep your mistakes in proper context. We all know that not everything is going to go our way or how we desire, but how we deal with those unexpected or unanticipated consequences is important. Don’t dwell on past mistakes. Acknowledge them, learn from them and move on.

Such as… make time for lunch. Skipping meals affects your concentration and productivity, and grabbing something on the run – which more often than not, isn’t good for you – is a bad idea. So give yourself this much needed break.

Such as… nature bats last. There are things you cannot control, so stop trying. There will be bumps in the road that we encounter unexpectedly. I will guarantee you are strong enough to handle them.

Thank you all for the great work you do every day. You make a difference.

Ok, here goes. Have a great beginning to 2018!
